In searching for research articles related to my DQ as to the best method to help students be recruited, I am faced with using articles that have different focuses but do relate somehow to my DQ. Below are some quotes that I will use in my research paper: “Coaches know the value of video: They can run a play in slow motion to analyze a swing or a pitch. They can navigate to a particular chapter to see how the prospective player fields grounders or to check a pitcher’s fastball. DVDs are a vital tool for evaluating and training athletes” (p. 2, Stuart). “NCAA institutions treat athletic aid as a kind of coupon off the cost of college, rewarding athletes with the most value--including football and basketball players, whose sports bring in the most money--with the best deals” (p. 2, Wolverton). “College baseball’s smallball evolution highlights a simmering tension between college coaches and pro scouts: What’s best for the coaches’ careers-winning games now-isn’t what’s best for the major league development machine” (p. 13, Bradley & Keith). “Due to advancements and affordability of technology, the NJCAA has been able to use its website and digital TV platforms as integral tools in highlighting the successes of community college student athletes” ( p. 2, Sturdivant). “The top responses as to why they chose this particular institution where the coach and the program, the reputation of the coach, the style of play by the team, perceived amount of playing time, television, exposure, perceived opportunity to play professional sport, social life, and academic factors” (p. 3, Messenger & Schneder). “Baseball’s academic-progress rate has steadily climbed in the past two years. But with a 56-game schedule played in a 90-day stretch, the teams spend more time away from campus than those in most other sports do (p. 3, Wolverton).

There are articles online that can relate but in journals there is hardly anything. Whether searching college sports, college recruiting, baseball, many of the articles are in regards to specific teams or ethnicities, not in relation to my DQ which is, what is the best way to recruit. There are seminal people in coaching, that share their expertise in books, interviews, and television. I have learned a lot from reading the book Coach K, in regards to keeping students academically eligible, building a strong team community, which at a junior college level can often be difficult. In regards to the state-of-the-art knowledge related to the question, some of the articles that I have found and will reference in my research paper are, The Impact of Athletic Facilities on the Recruitment of Potential Student-Athletes, Junior Sports Success, The New Deadball Era, The Myth of the Sports Scholarship, Producing Baseball Recruiting Videos, and As Cutbacks Hit College Sports, Baseball Falls Behind in the Count. These articles give me insight and some information but not directly related to my DQ.
