12/7/2017 0 Comments Poster JourneyCreating the poster allowed me to go back to my original research paper and review the process, the research and share in a simple way my findings. It was a challenge to see the text due to the formatting so I had to copy and paste on a another document to create the text. Both the video and the presentation while challenging for me were really rewarding and show the hard work that went into this . I feel that I am coming away from this program with so much more knowledge about how to work in the 21st century with the new and evolving technology. I look forward to incorporating it into coaching and to keeping up to date to be a life long learner. It will help my players and it will help me. It feels good to know how to do all of the things that I have learned.

12/7/2017 0 Comments ReflectionThis has been a journey. It started out with me knowing that I want to find out more about what college coaches want when recruiting so that I can best serve my players at the junior college. What came from the interest, I never expected. I learned about the importance of video and then explored how to create better videos for coaches. From there I thought about how to share this video with coaches that are busy and don't put a lot of time or trust into coaches that are contacting them. This is how the capstone was created. The capstone made me create something useful that I can use to help my players move on. Starting with learning how to blog on Weebly, to exploring education and technology today, to designing a logo and needing to follow through on this creation. Now I have an easy to copy website that I can share with any player and all they have to do is fill in the template with the information requested in each page, and share the link with me and off it goes to the head coach at a four year college. It's really exciting to have created something that I can use and to show the growth I have made with technology myself like for example starting to use twitter to share game stats and playing locations and times with the community.
11/16/2017 0 Comments Video +&-Frustration at its highest. There is something awful about having a complete vision and having it turn out to be completely awful. My vision was to have my so to be recruited player follow my template and complete his own personal recruiting website to be forwarded onto college coaches. The template worked great and the player easily followed and completed it perfectly. That was the positive. The negative is that the video was to be taken from behind him showing how easily done it was to complete. Once done, i could edit it and add texted to the video prompting what was taking place. The glare from the screen was awful and the video it unusable. So, I am thinking now that I will take screen shots of the beginning and end of each tab while adding prompt texts.
11/6/2017 0 Comments video Info So my script has changed back a forth, mainly because my capstone has altered as well. It’s tough to have one thought one day and then think forward about creating a video when the original idea changes. As of today, I like the idea of a split screen with myself and the High School Athlete contacting me with interest in my school. The video will show the athlete and myself relaying important information back and forth. The importance of the videos message will show the coach's frustration with lengthy unwanted information, giving the athlete advice to create a simple informative video.
11/6/2017 0 Comments Logo experienceAt first glance a logo was a creative design. I didn’t realize all of the meaning that could be represented by the colors chosen and the images, ans well as the underlying meaning that sometimes isn’t obvious but is super well thought out and interesting. After drafting a logo I started looking and playing with different ways to make logos online. I found a website called Logo maker, and createalogo.com, but after hours. They both worked but it was difficult for me to create the logo I really wanted. I ended up sending a sketched logo to get sharpened up through Fiverr. I just wanted it to look as good as possible. For $5.00 I was able to get three logos based on the criteria I gave them for what I was looking for. I shared colors, concepts, and the background of the website I want to create. All the other options were trying to force me to have less detail and creating weaker images. Fiverr turned out to be a great option and they gave me ideas that would all work well. Now I have to decide!

Coach: Scene setting: coach in office. 1 - what makes a player think he is the only kid sending me a video. Who has time to look at thousands of drag out long videos? 2 - first off, the player can’t play here athletically. Second, his grades prove not only can he not get in, but he wouldn’t succeed here if he could. And third, even with a long shot if both of those things matched up, its expensive to go to school here and to live here. Could he even afford it? These emails are a waste of time! Player: Scene setting: player at home or school library. 1 - keep it simple, who am I? My Name High School I Attend Size & Weight Preferred on Field Position Why I’m interested in this college (What Major I’m interested in at your college) 2 - have all the answers ready. Find the connection. Example. Dear Coach, My name is _____________. I am a high schools senior at ___________ high school. I have applied to your college and am interested in majoring in _______. I have family in the area and have played summer baseball with a couple of your players in the past. My family and I are prepared and committed to making this my home for the next four years. Here is a short video of me hitting along with a YouTube link if you are interested and have time to view more. Please let me know if you would like to continue this conversation further. Thank you |
